I’m 35 now

So, I turned 35 about three weeks ago.  It’s been pretty busy around here since then, but things are starting settle down a bit. For that I am thankful. I didn’t cross everything off my list, but it’s OK!  I accomplished a lot, and I have this year to continue to chip away at the 34 list while adding some new adventures for 35.  Here’s where I stand currently:

Easing in is Harder

I’m a toe-tipper, water-tester and ease-inner when it comes to swimming.  I like to know what I’m getting into, you know?  This is especially the case at Barton Springs Pool, one of Austin’s best and coolest places.  Built in the 1920s,  Barton Springs is a spring-fed pool with three acres of crisp spring waters and stellar city views.  Did I mention that is COLD?  The pool’s temperature stays pretty consistent between 68 and 70 degrees year-round.  Yet, knowing this fact, I ALWAYS test the water before easing in. And, as many times that I’ve been to Barton Springs, I’m pretty sure that I’ve only gotten in — and I mean really in — maybe once or twice.  So, as a part of my 34 for 34 project, I decided to add number 18 to the list — Jump into Barton Springs without testing the water first.

I have to say that in my mind’s eye, I would have looked more like Matt when taking the leap — full of joy and embracing the moment.  Instead, I appear to be preparing for the icy demise that awaits me.  But, it wasn’t a demise at all.  Cold, yes, but only for a moment.   Shock soon turns to exhilaration and you never want to get out.  I can’t wait to do it again.

Today is the Day

There it is — number 26 on my 34 for 34 list, “Go on a Facebook Holiday.”  So, I’ve decided that today is the day.  Why take a break?  Well, don’t get me wrong, Facebook is a great way to connect with people and keep updated on goings-on, but I need a break.  In between the pictures of far-flung travels and meaningful updates, there’s a lot stuff that I’d rather not know or see.  And, the more that I think about it, it feels like Facebook makes me less connected with my friends and family.  “Why do I need to call So-and-so when I know exactly what’s going on her life because it’s all over her FB wall?”

I’m not sure if it will last or for how long.  I left it vague for a reason.  I’ve already uninstalled the FB app on my phone, but I don’t plan to shut down my profile down completely (for now anyways).  And, I set my notifications to let me know when someone posts something on my wall or sends me a message.  In the meantime, you can find me here or on twitter.
